HEMA MALINI BATS FOR SRI KRISHNA LAND

Mathura

Cine star turned politician Hema Malini representing Mathura in the Lok Sabha is determined to change the profile of Sri Krishna land, the Braj area which draws millions of devotees and pilgrims from all over the world round the year.

With a set of demands Hema Malini on Wednesday met the prime minister Narendra Modi in his office and held discussion with him on a variety of issues that need urgent attention. A source close to the MP said Hema Malini focused on development of religious shrines associated with the Sri Krishna-Radha lore, various tourist spots in Braj Mandal and ways to conserve the cultural heritage of the region. She also raised the issue of Yamuna cleaning alongwith Yamuna. Hema Malini suggested to the prime minister that natural gas could be provided on a priority to local industries at concessional rate.

Talking to TOI, Hema Malini Thursday said " I am doing my best and have told the prime minister in clear terms that the Mathura-Vrindavan heritage has to be promoted and conserved. I gave him a list of 20 odd demands and he has promised me action on most. Yamuna too will be in focus. Vrindavan already a heritage town, will be a shining jewel of Braj. I am actively involving the locals in every activity. We have to begin with cleaning up the mess. A pledge will be taken Friday morning by local citizens to keep Vrindavan clean and green."

"Today I have invited everyone in Vrindavan to join the Kartik Poornima Maharaas. The local talent must come to the fore. This is the way I am trying to connect with the locals."

"Already I find a lot of change taking place. People are excited and have great hopes. I told the prime minister that the Brajbasis were looking at me to usher in big changes and we can not let them down."

Thursday morning Hema Malini interacted with the kisans of Gokul area agitating for compensation for their land. She said very soon a solution would be found out.
