Radhasoami
marriages
Marriages solemnised in Dayalbagh
by the Central Satsang Sabha have to follow a strict code. The followers of the
Radhasoami faith are expected to conduct marriage proceedings with simplicity
and dignity. Those who show off can be socially boycotted, says Shabd Mishra,
media officer.
The first stage is registration at
the central sabha, thereafter three counselling sessions for both the groom and
the bride are held, followed by medical examination. Parents too are expected to
attend counselling sessions where they are told about austerity and no dowry
system. They have to give in writing.
A day before the marriage a
satsang is held where prasad is distributed, one laddoo and one mathri.
The number of guests at the
weddings is fixed at 100, not one more.
Each year more than a dozen
marriages are solemnised.
The Radhasoami faith followers
ususally lead a very austere and simple life without pomp and show. At Dayalbagh
the residents are not even allowed to watch TV. They move around the huge campus
on bicycles or in electric rikshaws. All members have to work in the field every
morning.
