AKHILESH YADAV PRESENTS HIS DEVELOPMENT AGENDA

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav today presented his developmental agenda for the state, assuring people that he all the promises made would be fulfilled.
 
Yadav was in Agra to open the 8th edition of Meet At Agra, a fair of the leather shoe industry. He said his government was determined to promote the shoe industry which should adopt "competition with innovation" strategy in a highly competitive market and endeavour to attract foreign capital in this sector. The industry was vital for the state as it generated lots of revenue and provided jobs to lakhs of skilled workers. The shoe industry had given Agra a new sense of identity alongwith tourism. The skill of the workers in the leather shoe industry was well recognised world over just like the Taj Mahal. The industrialists of Agra had kept pace with the emerging technologies, had upgraded themselves to gain prestige not only for the state but for the country also.
 
The chief minister said his government had distributed laptops so that the younger generation keeps pace with changing times and is able to move ahead in life. Transport being a critical input in the developmental process, work on the six-lane Agra-Lucknow Expressway, the longest in the country has begun and would be completed in good time. The Expressway will support a whole lot of economic activities like dairies, grain and vegetable mandies.
 
He said his government has launched the Samajwadi Pension Scheme which will benefit a large number of people. Money would be transferred directly into their accounts to eliminate delays and the middlemen.

To promote cycling and cycles in a big way, the state government had waived the VAT levy to make purchase of common man's vehicle affordable. Cycle track was being developed close to the Taj Mahal to promote cycling.
 
He said a trauma centre for the poor was being developed at the local SN Medical college.
 
Akhilesh assured the central government of its support for all developmental schemes for the poor.
 
Interacting with media persons at Taj Khema the chief minister said the Gangajal project would solve the water shortage problem in the Taj city.
 
The chief minister visited the SN Medical College and the Taj Ganj project to review the progress of various state government schemes.
 
Answering a question on the rot in the higher education sector Akhilesh Yadav said he was not averse to a CBI investigation in the alleged scams in the Agra University, if someone asked for it.
 
He announced a high powered committee would be formed to look into the demands of the leather shoe industry.
