NEED FOR NEW MODELS OF WELL BEING AND DEVELOPMENT

ALIGARH November 24 (IANS) New models of well being and development were required in a fast changing global scenario. This was the consensus of opinion at the international conference on well being and human development organised at the Aligarh Muslim University's department of psychology.

Professor Akbar Husain, Coordinator, UGC-SAP (DRS-I)  said  that for laying the foundation of a healthier society, thoughts and attitudes associated with childhood were to be replaced with structures of a civilization that reflected our adulthood. It required the holistic aspect of well-being that had become the operating principle of our life.
Inaugurating the Conference  Professor Grishwar Misra, Vice Chancellor, M G Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishvidyalaya, Vardha said that we needed to adopt a multidisciplinary approach  to attain a greater degree of well-being and human development. He was critical of the way humans were being used by emerging markets.
A large number of delegates from India and abroad are participating in the three-day conference.
In his presidential remarks, AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah said that well-being must be balanced between the mind, body and spirit. These elements of life have equal importance. Achieving balance among these various functions is the essence and the objective of human existence.
Prof. Naima Gulrez, Convener of the Conference said that psychologists of different fields of specialization and experts of different discipline have gathered here to prove that we are united by a common desire and objective to work towards improving the well-being of individuals and societies.
