Fatehpur Sikri MP opts
for lottery to select
village for adoption
Fatehpur Sikri (Agra
district)
Setting a precedent, the Bhartiya
Janata Party Lok Sabha member from Fatehpur Sikri (Mughal emperor Akbar's
deserted capital), Choudhary Babu Lal, opted for lottery system to select a
village for adoption.
Since there were demands from so
many villages in the five tehsils of the constituency, the MP not wanting to
antagonise any section, zeroed on this novel idea, said officials at the Braj
Kshetra office of the party. Important leaders and Gram pradhans from villages
which had voted for the BJP were summoned. Five villages each from the five
tehsils which met the parameters were selected in the first round. Voting was
then held for one village each from the 25 selected. "And in the final round one
had to be selected out of the 25." The lucky winner was village Pusenta of
Saiyyan block in Kheragarh tehsil.
A beaming Choudhary Babu Lal
announced the name and immediately informed the central office of the party and
the prime minister's office of the choice of the village for development under
the PM's Saansad's Adarsh Gram Yojna.
Pusenta, 35 km from the Agra city
has a population of 4453. Villagers celebrated the choice of their village for
development by the MP, hoping the required infrastructural facilities would now
be available to them. Gram pradhan of the village Uttam Singh Yadav said
"usually politicians do not return after the elections, but now we are hopeful
of some change for the better."
